During the last month 10 volunteers from the West Grove Fire Company traveled to Avondale Fire Company to attend a Pennsylvania Department of Health and Pennsylvania Fire Academy Basic Vehicle Rescue training course. Each section was held on two Wednesday evenings and one Saturday. The first section of the course dealt with awareness of an accident site and the hazards presented to the responders. The Saturday class was held at a local salvage yard, were the students learned skills in stabilization of the vehicle and how to access the patient. The second section of the course dealt with additional skills of accessing the patient and disentanglement of the vehicle from the patient. The Saturday class again went to the local salvage yard to practice skills using hand tools only, to disassemble the vehicle. The final session will teach packaging and extrication of the patient. The Saturday class will allow the students to practice skills using power tools.
The West Grove Fire Company would like to thank the Officers and members of the Avondale Fire Company for allowing our members the opportunity to receive the valuable training.
