| The West Grove Fire Company said farewell to its 2009 Piece Arrow XT Heavy Duty Rescue Pumper this week, as the truck was officially handed off to the Chicora Volunteer Fire Department of Chicora, PA.
The truck was sold as part of the WGFC's apparatus replacement plan which outlines how the fire company manages its fleet of apparatus, laying out an approximate 20 year lifespan for large fire trucks. The plan helps the fire company and area municipal officials map out the significant expense of apparatus replacement.
With the arrival of the new Engine 22-2, the conversion of an engine into a squad, and the ordering of a new squad to replace the 2009 Pierce, the WGFC is well on its plan to maintain the fleet. Chicora VFD operates a fleet with a yellow and white fleet so the 2009 will fit nicely in their operation. Chicora also carries the Station 26 designation, which will be the new number for the West Grove and Avondale fire companies next year as they merge to form Southern Chester County Fire Rescue.
