Slippery Roads Lead to Multiple Accidents

January 18, 2026

Slippery roads from a small snowfall kept West Grove first responders busy this weekend.

On Saturday morning, EMS units were sent to assist Cochranville 27 in West Fallowfield Township at 10:03am.

Then, at 11:42am, the WGFC was dispatched to the Route 1 Bypass in Penn Township with Engine 22-3, Ladder 22, Brush 22 and Ambulances 22-4 and -1. Minutes later, the fire company had a second simultaneous crash with a car into a PECO pole at State Road and Route 896 -- with Engine 22-3 handling the call along with Ambulance 22-2 and the Brush. This continues a pattern of the fire company getting multiple calls at the same time -- a pattern that has been increasing in frequency over the past 18 months.

With roads in tough shape from ice and all-day snowfall, the next emergency came just before 5pm with reports of subject trapped and multiple injuries. The call was on Route 796 near Baker Road in Penn Township. West Grove responded with Ambulance 22-1, Engine 22-1, Squad 22, Engine 22-3, Ambulance 22-2, Ambulance 22-4, Utility 22-3 and Ladder 22. Additionally, mutual aid units also responded, including Medic 94, Oxford Ambulance 21-1, Westwood Ambulance 44-1 w Medic 44-1, Longwood MICU25 and Rescue 25. Engine 22-1 went on location and reported no entrapment with Chief 22 then reducing the fire assignment. At this call, EMS units transport 3 BLS and 1 ALS patients to area hospitals.

Engine 22-3 then handled a car rolled over on Flint Hill Road in London Britain Township at a crash with no injuries. WGFC units were also sent to the Route 1 Bypass in London Grove Township at 3:29am Sunday morning - with Engine 22-1, Ambulance 22-1 and Brush 22 responding along with an ambulance from Avondale 23. While on scene, a second crash occurred but fortunately did not involve fire apparatus. Units cleared that call in about an hour.

Units: Multiple WGFC units.

Mutual Aid: Multiple mutual aid units.
