The West Grove Fire Company and paramedics from Medic 94 were dispatched to a crash near 512 East Old Baltimore Pike in London Grove Friday afternoon at 4:17pm. The original reports said one driver might be unconscious and no one could get in because the doors were locked. Reports also indicated that one of the two vehicles involved was a school bus, but with no children on board.
This is another emergency call that serves as an example of the importance of staffed emergency units, as Engine 22-1 from the West Grove station responded immediately, as did three WGFC ambulances. Engine 22-1 arrived on scene and reported that a pickup truck and school bus were involved and quickly reported going in service with rescue tools to free the driver of the large pickup truck. Crews from the engine and Squad 22 removed the B-post (between the front and rear doors on the driver's side) to make removal of the patient easier. Chief 22 reported extrication complete just 15 minutes after the initial dispatch, and just 11 minutes after the first engine arrived on scene.
There were no injuries on the school bus, and the one injured subject was transported to by Ambulance 22-2 and M94 to the Christiana Hospital. WGFC fire police handled traffic control with most WGFC units clearing the scene after about 45 minutes.
Units:
Engine 22-1, Squad 22, Ambulances 22-4, 22-2 and 22-1 and fire police.
