As the first snowflakes began to fall on the season's first winter storm, the West Grove Fire Company was dispatched for a brush fire that was then upgraded to an outbuilding fire.

The call, on Red Fox Lane, came in just before noon and was originally described as brush and pine trees on fire. The caller then indicated a nearby shed was also on fire which led to the upgraded dispatch - resulting in a re-dispatch for WGFC and added a request for an Engine from Oxford 21.

Engine 22-1 and Tanker 22 responded from West Grove. Engine 22-2 and the Rescue responded from New London. Engine 22-3 responded from the London Britain station. Engine 22-3 arrived on location to report what looked like a 10x10 shed on the ground burning, and stretched a 1-3/4" bumper attack line. Engine 22-2 had arrived at a nearby hydrant at Den Road and Red Fox Lane and laid a supply line from that location up to Engine 22-3. The crews combined to put water on the fire, which turned out to be a 10X15 pile of logs and brush burning next to a shed. Quick work by the crews prevented the fire from spreading to the shed.

Tanker 22 arrived and provided water supply to Engine 22-3. The company used approximately 2,500 gallons of water. Crews from the Rescue and Engines picked up the 300+ feet of supply line, while crews mopped up the fire scene. The responding Engine from Oxford was recalled. WGFC Ambulances and Fire Police assisted as well. West Grove crews were on scene about one hour. There were no injuries.

Units: Engines 22-1, -2, and -3; Tanker 22; Rescue 22; WGFC Ambulances, WGFC Fire Police
