Fire Box - 2204

At 1419 hours the alert was sent to West Grove units for a truck fire on U.S. Route 1 at Route 841 in London Grove Township. Due to the high call volume the location was switched multiple times, until it was confirmed by an Avondale Fire Company member to be at mile marker 11.4 northbound just north of the Pusey Mill Road overpass in Penn Township. Calls reported a dump truck with fire underneath the rear axles.

Assistant 22, Engine 22 & Engine 12 both with three, Engine 32 with a driver and Tanker 22 with two all made the daytime response. Engine 22 was first to arrive and confirmed the report of a working fire under the dump body of a loaded tri-axle dump truck.

Engine 22 took both lanes to shut down northbound U.S. Route 1 so the engine company crew could operate. The crew went to work deploying 200' of 1.75" attack line to extinguish the fire. Assistant 22 arrived next to establish the "Route 1 Command". Engine 12 arrived next and the crew went to assist Engine 22 crew, while the driver placed the apparatus in a blocking manner as well. The fire was deemed under control by command within 8 minutes of arrival of Engine 22. Tanker 22 and Engine 32 arrived together and the orders from command were for Tanker 22 to stage on the shoulder and supply Engine 22, while Engine 32 was ordered to take a blocking position just south of the scene. After the fire was knocked both crews from 12 & 22 checked for extension as well as hosed down the road bank.

West Grove crews and units operated the scene for 45 minutes until returning back to the respective stations.
