Just before 6:00pm Tuesday evening April 16, West Grove Fire Company responders were dispatched to handle a gas leak on Dorothy's Way in New London Township.

Dispatchers in the Chester County 911 Center reported the homeowners smelled gas around a buried 1,000 gallon propane tank, and a resident was not feeling well at the scene. Units from the WGFC responded, including Rescue 22, Ladder 22, Engine 22-1, Tanker 22, fire police, and an ambulance from the Union Fire Company of Oxford (as WGFC units were on other calls).

First arriving crews on Rescue 22 found a heavy propane odor while approaching the underground tank, with the company's gas meters signaling significant gas levels at the tank and the sound of leaking gas. WGFC crews shut off the main tank valve and, as a precaution, shut off the gas valve entering the residence. The crews also performed a sweep inside the residence to determine if there was any gas present, as leaking gas can sometimes find its way underground into the home. Fortunately, shutting off the tank resolved the issue until repairs could be made to a faulty regulator by the propane gas provider.

The person feeling ill was evaluated by ambulance crews from Oxford. First responders were on the scene for approximately 75 minutes.
