Urgent calls to 911 reported a fire in a New London Township house on Tuesday evening, bringing a large response from the West Grove Fire Company and nearby Fire Departments.
The Chester County 911 Center dispatched a house fire at 8:23pm, with initial reports of a fire in a bedroom. While first arriving WGFC personnel reported normal conditions from the front, a resident confirmed fire on the second floor, and upon a 360 degree walk around, smoke was reported to be showing from the C or back side and roofline.
West Grove responded with its full fleet, with Rescue 22 arriving as the first due Engine, laying a large-diameter supply line from the nearest hydrant at Clear View Lane to the scene. A 1-3/4" attack line was advanced into the residence. Ladder 22's crew arrived and started the primary search, and confirmed a bedroom on the second floor on fire.
Meanwhile, Engine 21-2 from Union Fire Company of Oxford arrived as the next due Engine, and secured the hydrant and water supply. Tankers from Oxford and West Grove arrived, providing a more-than-adequate water supply for this emergency.
Quick work by the Rescue 22 crew had water on the fire quickly, knocking down the room-and-contents fire. Crews from WGFC and Oxford then worked to perform overhaul, opening up walls and ceilings to assure there was no additional fire spread.
Area Fire Companies helped provide a high-turnout of firefighters in addition to the extensive WGFC response. Oxford had 23 firefighters, with three Engines, their Rescue, Ladder and Tanker. Avondale brought two fire Engines. Cochranville provided the RIT (Rapid Intervention Team) with their Rescue and Tanker. WGFC had two Engines, Tanker, Ladder, Ambulances, Squad, Brush, and Utility, along with Fire Police.
There were no injuries and WGFC cleared the scene in about two hours.
