WGFC Joins Multi-Company Rescue Response in West Marlborough Township
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

November 11, 2021

Area fire and EMS Companies, including West Grove Fire Company, worked together to rescue two trapped victims in a car versus truck accident in West Marlborough Township yesterday.

Originally dispatched as an auto accident, the call in the Fire District of Po-Mar-Lin Fire Company of Unionville was upgraded to an entrapment rescue call when it was learned that the accident involved a car and dump truck, with reports of both drivers trapped. The crash was located at the intersection of North Chatham Road (Route 841) and Hood Road.

Arriving units from Station 36 (Po-Mar-Lin) reported one trapped victim in each vehicle, with both the SUV and the tri-axle dump truck rolled onto their sides. The 36 Units requested additional Ambulances, Medic Units for Advanced Life Support (ALS), and support from other Fire Companies for rescue tools. In addition to Brush 36 and a Utility Vehicle from 36, Ambulances from Avondale and West Grove were requested, along with Rescue trucks from West Grove and Longwood and both Medic 94 units.

West Grove Fire Company responded with Engine 22-1 and Rescue 22, along with the Ambulance and Fire Police to the scene. WGFC crews worked along side crews from 36 and 25 to assist with vehicle stabilization and patient removal. WGFC Ambulance also transported patients. During the rescue evolution, the tri-axle dump truck driver was removed through the windshield, and the driver of the SUV was removed by flapping (cutting) away the roof area around the sunroof.

A large turnout of Fire Police was also necessary as the crash impacted a busy intersection involving two state roads -- Routes 841 and 842, along with Hood Road, and traffic had to be shut down in all directions. WGFC Fire Police worked alongside Fire Police from 36, 37 (Modena), and 23 (Avondale).

Units: Engine 22-1, Rescue 22, Ambulance 1 & 2, Fire Police

Mutual Aid: Brush 36, Utility 36, Engine 25-2 and Rescue 25, Fire Police (36, 37, 23), Ambulance 23-1 and 23-2.
