London Britain Station Celebrates 12-Year Anniversary
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

April 4, 2024

Members of the West Grove Fire Company took note of an anniversary this week -- the 12th anniversary of the opening of the department's London Britain Station. Located near the intersection of Route 896 and Flint Hill Roads, Station 222 houses one of the department's three engines designated Engine 22-3, along with providing a home for Antique 22, and the operation of the company's mechanic.

Originally designated Station 32, the third station was opened to provide coverage to the southern end of the district, located six miles south from West Grove Station 22, and six miles down 896 from Station 122 (originally Station 12) in New London. Together, the three stations form a triangle of coverage for emergencies in a large territory from the Delaware and Maryland state lines to the south, north to above Route 41 and upper reaches of London Grove Township, and east to cover London Grove and most of Franklin and London Britain townships, and west to cover Franklin, New London and Penn Townships.

The project was completed over several years, culminating in the opening of Station 222 on April 2, 2012. Since then, the station has answered many, many emergency calls, both locally and into Delaware and Maryland. And the station now houses the fire company's repair shop, where a full-time mechanic manages maintenance on the fleets of fire trucks and ambulances for West Grove and the Union Fire Company of Oxford in a jointly-operated program.

For more information on the opening of the third station, see: https://www.wgfc.org/apps/public/news/newsView.cfm?News_ID=444
For more information on the fleet maintenance program at Station 22, see: https://www.wgfc.org/news/1298/West-Grove-and-Union-Fire-Companies-Partner-for-Fleet-Maintenance

The WGFC is proud of the accomplishments at this station, and for the support of the local community and township supervisors in London Britain Township who helped make it possible.

Units: Engine 22-3
