Just after 2100 hours on Monday the house siren blew for the Engine & Tanker assist Cecil County Stations 8, 18 & 28 (Rising Sun, MD) on a barn fire. With the strong gusty winds the fire rapidly progressed, bringing the first alarm tanker task force. The fire was located in the 200 block of Lombard Road in the Calvert section of Cecil County, Maryland. Engine 12 with 4, Engine 22 with 4 & Tanker 22 with 2 all made the trip south.
Once on the scene the two engines staged along Lombard Road while the crew made the walk down the 1500' stone driveway to enter into the man power pool. Tanker 22 entered into the tanker dump operation. Crews switched out with the first in units from Rising Sun and assisted on the fire suppression and overhaul operations of the incident. The barn was a total loss as well as the hay inside, but crews did save the adjoining barn and silo. West Grove crews operated on the scene until 2330 hours until we returned back into our First Due.
