Barn Fire in Londonderry Township
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

August 9, 2020

Just before 3:00am Friday morning, southern Chester County fire companies were dispatched for a reported barn fire in Londonderry Township. West Grove Fire Company was called to assist Cochranville, Station 27, for the fire located on White Horse School Road, between Hilton Road and Route 41. Also dispatched were Oxford, Avondale, and units from other companies such as Kennett Square, Longwood, Parkesburg and units from Lancaster County.

Cochranville’s first arriving Officer reported fire showing on a medium-sized barn, and reported a very narrow access driveway that might inhibit apparatus placement. Cochranville's Engine moved up the driveway, laying a supply line and began to attack the well-involved barn. WGFC's Ladder 22 arrived and was able to make access through a neighboring driveway, and position its aerial ladder through a number of trees to be in position to use it's elevated waterway.

Additional Engines arrived with crews walking in to deploy hand lines and fight the fire. Meanwhile, with no fire hydrants near the scene, a Tanker Task Force was assembled to supply water to the scene, with Tankers from 27, 22, 25, 23, 21, 8 and Lancaster County arriving on the scene. WGFC's Engine 22-3 was sent to Honeycroft Blvd. and Route 41 to establish a fill site to re-fill tankers.

The main body of the fire was knocked down quickly, with Command reporting there would be extensive overhaul (completing the process of breaking up the debris and hay to fully extinguish the fire). Ladder 22's aerial water pipe was used for this purpose, with nearly 23,000 gallons of water supplied to water Tanker during the call.

There were no injuries. Ambulances from 22 and 23 were at the scene, along with numerous Fire Police units at the fire scene and fill site.
