April 9, 2023

Firefighters from the West Grove Fire Company were part of more than 75 firefighters on scene at a 3-alarm blaze in Parkesburg early on Easter Sunday morning.

The original 911 call reported a fire in the 100 block of Washington Street in Parkesburg borough, with the Keystone Valley Fire Company getting the call. The resulting fire ran a row of townhouses, ultimately becoming a three-alarm fire with companies involved including: Keystone Valley, Westwood, Gap, Christiana, East Brandywine, Honey Brook, Modena, Bart, White Horse, Rawlinsville, and the WGFC, along with multiple EMS and fire police agencies.

The original dispatch was at 2:54am with reports of a dwelling fire with a possibility of up to 13 residents trapped. Heavy fire was reported by the first fire department units on the scene. A second alarm was quickly transmitted, with six homes involved by 3:16am. With early collapse of the 2nd floor of one residence, firefighters were pulled out of that unit. A mayday was declared for a firefighter down in one of the homes, which was quickly cleared with the firefighter located and extricated and reported safe. A fully defensive operation was declared just before 4:00am.

The WGFC was requested for standby just before 4:00am, with Engine 22-1 pulled into the scene at 5:44am to assist with extinguishment. WGFC crews returned to West Grove just after 8:00am.
