Crashes in New London and Penn Townships

July 23, 2022

The West Grove Fire Company was dispatched for two auto accidents this weekend, in Penn and New London Townships.

The first crash was at Route 896 and Oxford Road in New London Township on Saturday morning just after 10:45am. The Chester County 911 Center reported a two vehicle crash. As both WGFC ambulances were already on emergency calls, an ambulance from the Union Fire Company of Oxford and also from Avondale were requested, along with Medic 94 for a patient with reported possible loss of consciousness.

The WGFC responded with Engines 1 & 2, Brush 22, and Utility 22. Two vehicles - a sedan and a pickup truck -- had crashed in the middle of the intersection blocking traffic. WGFC fire police handled the traffic mess while crews secured the vehicles and assisted the ambulance crews with evaluations. One subject was transported to the hospital.

The second accident came in 13.5 hours later, at just after midnight early Sunday morning. This time the call was for a one vehicle crash with entrapment on West Woodview Road near Gurnsey Road. The dispatch called for West Grove units, ALS from Medic 94, and Rescue 23 from Avondale, as WGFC's Rescue 22 is out of service. WGFC responded with Engines 1, 2 and 3, along with ambulances and fire police.

On arrival, WGFC units found a car on its side into a telephone pole. While the reporting party stated they couldn't get of the car, they were able to self-extricate themselves through the sun roof with assistance from troopers from the Avondale State Police who helped remove the sun roof. The subject did not go to the hospital, and all units cleared the scene relatively quickly. WGFC fire police handled the road closure until the vehicle could be removed.

Units: WGFC Engines 1, 2, 3, ambulances and fire police

Mutual Aid: State Police Avondale, Medic 94, Rescue 23 and Ambulance 23 (Avondale), and Ambulance 21 (Oxford)
