A Reason to be Thankful

November 26, 2020

There is no doubt, 2020 will be remembered as a year of many challenges. Certainly, the challenges faced by first responders to meeting the pandemic risk and supporting emergency operations will top the list. But there are reasons to be thankful this Thanksgiving -- the support we have received from local businesses during these trying times.

Yesterday, firefighters and EMTs and others from the West Grove Fire Company were treated to a traditional Thanksgiving meal by the great people at J. Scott Catering in Malvern. Working as part of the Food for the Frontline program, and with coordination from our good friend Beau Crowding of the Chester County Department of Emergency Services, nearly 200 meals were prepared by J. Scott Catering and distributed to police, fire and EMS emergency responders in the southern part of the county using a drive-by pickup at the WGFC station in West Grove. Our thanks to J. Scott Catering that donated some of the meals, and some were purchased for this program by the catering company's customers.

Each individually prepared dinner included roasted turkey, vegetables, stuffing and pumpkin pie and fixings, and were warmly appreciated by our members and career staff.

During the pandemic, many local businesses have stepped up to provide donated meals to support emergency services team members. Donated by the business, or supported through the donations of individuals and groups, these meals offer a big thank you to those on "the frontline" of response during the pandemic.

The Food for Frontline Meal program is coordinated through cooperative efforts between the Chester County Conference & Visitors Bureau, Chester County Chamber of Business & Industry, and Chester County Economic Development, with cooperation from J. Scott Catering, the Chester County Commissioners and the Department of Emergency Services. All of us at the WGFC are grateful to this program, and the support of the greater community, especially this year.
