Tropical Storm Is Past - Be Safe!

August 3, 2020

Tropical Storm Isaias has left our area. But these safety tips still apply in the aftermath of the storm:

The most significant risk in our area is for flash flooding. Creeks have overflowed their banks, and roadways are still covered in the usual spots. Remember: do NOT drive into standing water, as the risk for drowning is very real. Even slow moving water can easily carry a car or small truck into flooded streams. So remember: Turn Around, Don't Drown!. It is not safe to bypass road closed signs (and it is also against the law). Use common sense and detour flooded areas.

The community is also advised to use extreme caution around downed power lines. Always assume that any downed line is live and dangerous, even during a power outage. Contact PECO for any downed power lines, and remember they are even more dangerous in heavy rain and standing water.

Also, if the power is out and you are using a generator, remember: never use a generator inside a home, garage, barn or business. Generators must be placed outside, with the exhaust system away from windows and doors. Use caution refueling generators due to hot engines and exhaust.
