Trash Truck Fire in Franklin Township

July 29, 2020

Early in the morning, long before the sun would come up, West Grove Fire Company handled a large truck fire near Kemblesville.

At 2:50am, WGFC was dispatched for a vehicle fire along Route 896 between Good Hope Road and Appleton Road. Dispatchers reported that a large commercial trash truck was on fire. WGFC Engines 22-1 (West Grove) and 22-3 (London Britain) responded, along with Tanker 22 (West Grove), Rescue 22 (New London), and an ambulance.

Engine 22-3, responding from the nearby fire station at Nichol Park in London Britain Township, arrived quickly, reporting a large trash truck fully involved in fire. The crew deployed a 150' 1-3/4" attack line from the front bumper to fight the fire which was concentrated in the engine and cab of the trash truck.

Crews from the additional Engines arrived to assist, including raising a ladder to check and see if the fire had spread to the trash in the back of the truck. Tanker 22 arrived and supplied additional water to Engine 3. Approximately 1,000 gallons of water was used in the incident.

There were no injuries and crews returned in about an hour.
