WGFC Handles Brush Fire in New London Township

June 16, 2020

The West Grove Fire Company was dispatched for a brush fire today behind 680 West Avondale Road in New London Township.

The Chester County Fire Radio reported a controlled burning was spreading. Responding were Engines 22-1, 22-2, and 22-3, along with Tanker 22, Brush 22, an ambulance and fire police.

Brush 22 responded from the nearby station in New London, and arrived to find brush on fire spreading across a field, and a large tree stump on fire. The Brush truck went off road well back into the field and put its water pump into service to quickly knock down the fire spread. Crews from the engines also assisted with rakes to assure the fire was out at the edges.

With everything wet down, the incident was complete in less than 20 minutes.

The community is reminded that hot, dry summer conditions, and windy conditions risk fire spread. Please maintain a close eye on any planned controlled burns.
