Saturday afternoon filled with the sounds of sirens as fire trucks were dispatched to a barn fire along Mt. Hope Road.

The West Grove Fire Company and area fire departments got the call about 3pm for a barn on fire along Mt. Hope Road near Brae Court. The initial reports from the 911 Center indicated a two-story barn with fire through the roof, and animals nearby.

The WGFC responded first with Ladder 22 and Engine 22-2. Chief 22 arrived and reported a 30 X 50 foot barn with fire through the roof, with two adjacent sheds to the rear, also involved. The Chief established command, and instructed Engine 22-2 to lay a water supply line from a nearby hydrant. As the first in engine, E-2 laid about 700 feet of 5" inch supply line into the scene, and began to attack the fire with 1-3/4" lines, placing two lines in service.

Ladder 22 arrived and set up its aerial ladder, which was then not used. Tanker 22, along with Tankers from Avondale and Oxford, arrived on the scene to provide additional water if needed (although the nearby hydrant was sufficient for this outbuilding fire). Crews from Avondale and Oxford assisted with the fire fight and overhaul and Cochranville fire crews stood by for the RIT.

No animals were hurt by the fire, which was declared under control in about 30 minutes. The Chester County Fire Marshal is handling the fire investigation.
