This past Monday evening, 31 WGFC members concluded a two-part Introduction to Wild Land Fire Class.

The first part consisted of a classroom session covering the environmental factors of fuels, weather and topography that affect the start and spread of wild land fire. Operational tactics such as water supply, containment, fire suppression, were also covered. Fire ground safety review included the proper selection of protective gear, incident coordination and communication. The second session included a hands-on practical in the field applying the tactics of containment, fire suppression and water supply.

The class was lead by Chester County Fire Instructor Todd Ziegler with support from Station -17, the Chester County Forestry Crew. Our thanks and gratitude to Instructor Ziegler and crew for sharing their knowledge and expertise in wild land firefighting.

This review was timely as we enter the peak, fall brush fire season.
