Crews from the West Grove Fire Company made quick work of a house fire on Holly Drive in London Grove Township on April 9.

Crews from the WGFC and surrounding companies were alerted to a possible house fire just before 10am. The fire was discovered by a neighbor seeing smoke, and reported that it appeared nobody was home.

Engine 22-1 from the West Grove station responded quickly, arriving to report smoke showing. Crews stretched two 1-3/4 inch hand lines into the ranch-style home, finding an apparent fire in the kitchen. Deputy Chief 22 arrived assuming command, and reported smoke pushing from the eaves with on all sides, and requested a "working fire dispatch." That request adds various additional units to fill out the alarm, including fire marshals, additional units for rapid intervention, an advanced life support unit, etc.

Crews benefited from a ready water supply with a hydrant in front of the residence. Additional arriving crews from West Grove laddered the structure, assisted with fire suppression and ventilation (including venting the attic area with small holes in the roof), and overhaul -- as they pulled ceilings and walls to check for fire extension. Fire Marshals FM 100, 102 and 59 are investigating.

After a thorough search, it was clear that no one was home, including a reported dog in the home. There were no reported injuries. Deputy 22 reported the fire under control in about 40 minutes, with units returning soon thereafter.
