Today, members of the West Grove Fire Company will join with firefighters, community members, friends and family in honoring the life of James E. Decker, Sr. of Avondale, PA who passed away at the age of 71.

Jim was a Past Fire Chief at the Avondale Fire Company, where he served as a volunteer for 53 years. During his time there, Chief Decker was elected Chief in 1987. In addition, he held the rank of Assistant Chief for 15 years, and also held offices including Chief Engineer, Trustee and other roles. After serving as a line officer, Jim continued his service as a driver of first responding apparatus for many years.

While serving actively in Avondale, Chief Decker was also a Life Member of the West Grove Fire Company, reflecting the time-honored, close relationship between the two departments. At a memorial service this morning, WGFC Ladder 22 will participate in shaping a traditional arch of honor and welcome, and WGFC members will stand in honor of one of southern Chester County's most well known and liked volunteer firefighters.

It was an honor to serve with, and know Jim Decker. We send our condolences and wishes to his wife Shirley, and his two sons Jim, Jr. and Mike, and the entire Decker extended family.
