Time to Check Your Smoke Detectors

Daylight savings time ends on Sunday November 1st at 2:00 am. Before you go to bed on Saturday night, remember to “fall back” by setting your clocks back one hour. The members of the West Grove Fire Company remind you that this is also a good time to check your smoke detectors.

Smoke detectors should be on every level of your home. In addition, every bedroom should have one. If your detectors are battery operated, replace the batteries. Ideally, your detectors should be hard wired and integrated. Please remember that even if you have hardwired detectors they can have batteries that need to be changed as well. The batteries keep the detector up and running during a power outage.

Your fire company asks you to take a few minutes as a family and talk about a fire escape plan. Everyone should know at least two ways out of each room. If there is a fire, visibility will be limited so practice your plan in the dark. Everyone should know were to meet-up after exiting the home.

We never know when a fire will occur. We only know that when you call 911, the West Grove Fire Company is coming to help. You can make our job easier and your family safer by making sure your smoke detectors are working and and an emergency plan is established.
