On Sunday October 18, 2015 the West Grove Fire Company was dispatched to the 500 block of S. Guernsey Road in London Grove Township for a house fire at 1546 hours. Avondale Fire Company (station 23) was dispatched on the assignment as automatic mutual aid. Chief 22 added an engine and ladder assist from Union Fire Company of Oxford (station 21). As the units were responding, the Chester County Fire Dispatch advised responding units that the caller was a neighbor and reported that the kitchen was on fire and that all occupants had evacuated.

E22 was the first unit on location and reported a ranch style single family dwelling with fire showing from side A roof area. Assistant chief 22 arrived and established "Guernsey Road Command". Chief 22 arrived and assigned Asst. 22 the operations officer and assumed command. Chief 22 requested a tanker task force to be added to the assignment, due to the nearest hydrant being more than 3,000 feet away. E22 deployed an attack line to the front of the house. The fire was quickly knocked down and extinguished within 10 minutes. E12 arrived and deployed a back up line and checked for extension. E23-1 and E23-2 arrived and assisted with overhaul. Tankers 22 and 23 staged and were on scene to supply E22 with water if needed. Ambulance 23-2 handled EMS and rehab.

The fire was placed under control in 15 minutes. The remainder of the assignment was recalled. WGFC units were on scene for just over an hour.

Chester County Chief Fire Marshal John Weer was on scene and is investigating the cause of the fire.

We are very happy that this London Grove Township resident is doing well today due to the fact that the home's smoke detector alerted and the family was able to evacuate immediately.
