Annual Egg Drop at Assumption BVM School

Each year, students from the local schools get involved in learning the basics of science and physics by trying to figure out how to protect a fragile egg from a long fall from height. It's always a lot of fun to participate in these classes, when the West Grove Fire Company gets involved by bringing along Ladder 22 and dropping the class projects from the top of our 75' ladder.

Recently, classes at the Assumption BVM School on State Road completed their project work and it was time for their annual egg drop from approximately 50 feet above the ground. Ladder 22 set up in the parking lot, and the team projects were dropped one at a time. The projects included many creative approaches to egg protection -- from foam wraps, to putting the eggs inside large gloves, to bubble wraps and shoe boxes.

Most eggs did not survive the drop -- and, in our experience, projects that have very light materials often make for the best outcome. Despite the cold windy day, a good time was had by all (except, of course, if you were among the two dozen eggs that went splat in the parking lot).
