Downtown Toughkenamon House Fire

At 1148 hours West Grove Fire Company was alerted for an Engine & Truck to assist Avondale Fire Company (Station 23) on a house fire in the Toughkenamon section of New Garden Township. Calls reported a house on fire in the 200 block of Maple Lane with the occupants evacuated. Chief 23 was the first to arrive to report a one-story masonry bungalow with heavy fire showing, well involved. Ladder 22 with four volunteers and Engine 22 with three volunteers marked enroute minutes after the dispatch. Tanker 22 with one and Engine 12 with four marked up later.

Ladder 22 arrived as third due ladder company and assisted on first due ladder company operations with placing ground ladders for firefighter egress and cut two 4'x4' ventilation holes on the 'Charlie' side of the building. Engine 22 crew arrived and assisted with fire suppression and overhaul efforts. Tanker 22 assisted with water supply to first in Engine 23-2. Engine 12 crews also assisted with overhaul operations once they arrived. Crews operated at the scene for nearly 90 minutes before units could begin to pack up.

Lancaster County Truck 42 transferred into Station 22 to cover the West Grove first due area.
