A car struck a tractor trailer along Route 896 in London Britain Township on October 11, on a chilly, rainy Saturday morning, injuring one driver.

With West Grove volunteers "on duty" with two Saturday work details, the response to a reported "accident with entrapment" call came quickly. Crews were at Station 12 in New London doing a fall clean up, and additional crews were at Lowe's in Avondale on a fire prevention detail.

The call was dispatched for an accident with entrapment in London Britain Township, with West Grove units requested along with Medic 94 and an ambulance from Newark, DE Aetna 7 8 & 9 stations. Rescue 12 (with a crew of 6) made a rapid response, along with Ambulance 22. Medic 94-1 and 194 also made the response, followed quickly by Rescue 22, Brush 12 and Ladder 22.

Crews were advised enroute of a patient possibly entrapped about the legs with injuries. Assistant 22 arrived to report a car vs. tractor trailer accident, and then quickly reported that the patient was accessible, and did not appear to be trapped. WGFC's ambulance arrived and began a patient evaluation. Rescue 12 arrived and the crews stabilized the vehicle, and assisted the ambulance crew with removing the patient in the tight quarters between the car and the tractor trailer.

WGFC's ambulance and Medic 94 transported to Christiana Hospital. The ambulance from Newark was returned, along with Ladder 22, Rescue 22 and Engine 12.

WGFC fire police handled the road safety, closing Route 896 while crews were working.
