Just past noon on July 10, the West Grove Fire Company was dispatched for an accident on Route 896 near the intersection with Walnut Glen Road in Franklin Township.

First dispatched for Station 12 and Station 22 ambulance, the nature of dispatch was accident unknown. Early reports from Chester County Dispatch provided information that callers were reporting a rolled over tractor trailer, and then added information it was a tanker truck.

Assistant Chief Bob Hannan arrived and quickly reported the tanker to be carrying pool water and confirmed there was no entrapment and established 896 Command. Rescue 22, Engine 32, Ambulance 22-2, Brush 12 and Squad 22 all responded.

The 6000 water tanker had rolled on its side, and the tractor portion of the tractor trailer was heavily damaged after striking the road bank on the southbound side. Ambulance 22-2's crew examined the driver and transported him to Jennersville Hospital to be checked.

Fortunately, the truck was resting against the road bank allowing the WGFC fire police to maintain a single lane of traffic on the busy Route 896. Fire crews assured there was limited damage from leaking fluids from the tractor until tow truck employees could arrive.

The WGFC maintained scene safety and traffic control during the long process to remove the tractor trailer during this four hour incident.
