The EMS career staff at station 12 were alerted by motorists who knocked on the station door that a vehicle had driven into the Sunoco building and a gas pump. Sunoco is situated directly in front of our New London twp. sub-station, station 12. The EMT's requested that the Fire Company be dispatched for an accident with unknown injuries. The Fire company was dispatched and made the quick response. Crews arrived w/ FF Meade establishing Newark Rd command. The EMS crew evaluated the patient from the vehicle as well as Sunoco staff that were directly behind the breached wall at the cash registers. The Rescue crew found that there was no damage to the gas pump due to the protection provided by a metal bollard located at the end of the pump island. Crews ensured that the emergency shut off to the gas pump was made, that the building was evacuated, controlled fluids and the battery from the vehicle and then secured the area with caution tape. Notification was made to New London twp and Belfor was requested to the scene to board up the opening made by the vehicle. Crews remained on scene until Belfor arrived then cleared. The building that was affected just recently reopened after the construction of a brand new convenience store and new gas pumps.
