Residents of the greater Avon Grove community are digging out from a record snowfall this weekend. As you are clearing driveways and walks -- there are two very important things you can do to speed help in emergencies:

First, make sure your house number is clearly visible for responding fire and EMS personnel. So if snow has covered your mailbox, and house numbers, please be sure to clean those items off -- and they should be visible at night -- reflective if possible! And if you have a shared driveway, make sure it is clear which house is which...we can't help you if we cannot find you.

Second, on your street and in your development: please clear snow completely away from all fire hydrants -- a three foot circle around the fire hydrant is best. Snow plows will typically cover hydrants which are critical sources of water when we fight fires. Clear the snow from around the hydrant, and make sure it is visible from the street from both directions.

Thank you for assisting your community fire company!
