WGFC Assist to Avondale on a Chimney Fire

By Deputy Chief Justin Gattorno

At 2102 hours the West Grove Fire Company was dispatched for the ladder truck to assist Avondale Fire Company, Station 23, on a reported Chimney fire. The West Grove members were just completing their monthly First Responders Meeting (An After Action Review of the previous month's calls/events) so the ladder and Engine 32 were on the street within minutes after dispatch. Deputy 23 arrived on scene and reported a chimney fire that extended into the structure. Upon this report Chief 23 upgraded the assignment to a building fire response. With the upgrade additional units from West Grove and other surrounding companies were added to the assignment. Ladder 22 was held on the street while the crew brought ground ladders and saws up to the building to open up the framed in area around the chimney flue pipe. Engine 32 established a supply line to Rescue 23 and Engine 12 and Engine 22's crew assisted with interior operations. The situation was placed under control at 2133 hours.
