Accident with Entrapment in Penn

WGFC was dispatched to Baltimore Pike and Vineyard Way in Penn Township on Wednesday January 8 at 1633 for an accident, injuries unknown. SCCEMS Chief Bob Hotchkiss was on scene in 1 minute and notified Chester County Fireboard that there was a vehicle on its side with one occupant still inside. Deputy 22 was responding and asked the incident to be upgraded to the "accident with entrapment". Rescue 22, Rescue 12, Engine 32 all made the response. Ambulances 22-1 and 22-2, WGFC fire police units and Medic 94-1 and 94-2 also responded.

Deputy 22 arrived and established "Baltimore Pike Command". The vehicle was an SUV, lying on the driver's side, with one occupant trapped. R22 arrived and stabilized the vehicle with rescue struts and wood cribbing. EMS crews assessed and began treating the patient. The rescue and engine crews used various tools to remove the roof of the vehicle, giving the EMS crews easy patient removal. The patient was extricated 24 minutes after dispatch and taken to a local hospital for treatment.

All units were back in service in 1 hour.
