At 3:38AM the West Grove Fire company was dispatched for an accident with unknown injuries on Route 896 (New London Rd) south of Flint Hill Rd in London Britain twp. Within minutes of the initial dispatch the assignment was upgraded to an accident with entrapment. Fortunately, this is one of the many calls to date that have benefited from the addition of our second substation, station 32 in London Britain twp., only approximately 1 mile from the scene of the accident.

Engine 32 arrived on scene with the first rescue tools and went to work with vehicle stabilization and roof removal. Soon after, Assistant 22, Deputy 22, Rescue 12 and Engine 22 arrived. Assistant 22 assumed 896 Command, Deputy 22 assumed operations while Rescue 12 and Engine 22's crews went to work assisting Engine 32 with the extrication. Crews removed the roof and passengers side rear door to allow better access to the patient. Once access to the driver's compartment was made, hydraulic rams were setup to roll the dashboard forward to free the patients lower extremities. With the dashboard rolled back the patient was able to be placed on a backboard, lifted out and carried to a waiting Ambulance. Because of the quick response and timely extrication, crews were able to remove and transport the patient to a local trauma center within one hour of the initial dispatch.
