On sunday evening the West Grove Fire Company was dispatched to a chimney fire on Kelton road in Penn Township during the first quarter of the Super Bowl. Chester county fire dispatch quickly upgraded the alarm to a house fire with the home owner reporting smoke on the second floor of the residence. The upgrade automatically dispatched station 23, Avondale Fire Co, for the assist. Chief 23 was first to arrive reporting a 3 story single family dwelling with a working chimney fire. Deputy 22 arrived and established "Kelton" command. Engine 12 arrived and laddered the chimney on side D. Engine 22 immediately went to the second and third floors to check for extension. Engine 32 and Ladder 22 handled salvage and removed all of the burning debris from the fireplace. After a thorough investigation by the crews on scene, it was determined that the fire was isolated to the chimney. The fire was extinguished in the chimney using chains. All units were then released and went available after replacing their equipment. Engine 23-2 assisted on scene as well. Many thanks to the dedicated volunteers that took time out of their evening to protect the lives and property of their neighbors.
