The West Grove Fire Company will offer the community free smoke detectors under a program supported by government grants. The WGFC has received 750 smoke detectors with 10 year batteries that will be made available to any household the fire company's district. We are particularly interested in making sure those people in the community who cannot afford a smoke detector benefit from the program, which is open to all residents of the area. As an additional service to the community, fire company members can come to a residence to install the detectors, and the fire company will also assist in installing special detectors for those impaired residents who cannot hear a standard detector.

Studies have shown that most lives lost in fires are do to the fact that the home does not have a working smoke detector, which can provide valuable warning time when a fire starts.

To take advantage of this program, residents can fill out an on line form found on this website. Click on the Safety button on the top menu, and select Smoke Detector Request. You can also stop by the fire company's stations in West Grove and New London on Monday evenings, or in West Grove during the daytime to obtain a smoke detector. For more information, contact the WGFC.
