| With the strong and severe storms that rolled through the tri-state area last evening, the West Grove Fire Company responded to six calls from the storm damage. Here is the breakdown of the busy three hour period that brought 20+ volunteers to the call of duty. Fire Box - 1205 As Brush 12 headed into the city to support the ice cream parlor, The Station, at 1900 hours Chester County Fireboard alerted Station 12 for utility pole fire in the area of southbound Route 896 just south of Den Road in Franklin Township. Brush 12 marked up 1901 hours and responded with a crew of two. While enroute to this incident, the Company was hit for the second call in the district. Chief 22 marked up for the first call and redirected Brush 12 to head to the second incident, since Captain 12 will handle this assignment. Captain 12 notified the dispatch center of the PECO information to advise them of a tree limb on the power lines and power is out in that area. The box was cleared at 1919 hours. *A friendly reminder to the public that The Station donates 10% of all its proceeds it makes on Tuesday nights to WGFC. Hours of operation are 2pm until 9pm, so load up the car and drive into town for some delicious hard/soft ice cream and support your fire company!* Fire Box - 1208 For the second call in the district Fireboard alerted the company for trees and wires in the area of Glen Road and Wynn Court in London Britain Township at 1902 hours. Brush 12 was directed to this call per Chief 22. At 1912 hours Brush 12 and Chief 22 arrived on the scene to find a large limb across the primary power lines. Chief 22 used the MDC to enter the proper information for Fireboard so PECO could be dispatched. While on the scene of this incident the company was alerted for a third call in the district. This box was placed under control at 1922 hours. Cecil County Fire Box - 1400 At 1917 hours the third call came in for the company for an Engine assist Singlerly Fire Company 3, 13, & 14 (Elkton, MD) for a tree into a house in the 100 block of Rock Church Road in the Fair Hill section of Cecil County, Maryland. Engine 12-1 was already staffed at the station and responded at 1919 hours with a crew of four as well as Brush 12 with three. At 1924 hours Command 3 requested to place Engine 12-1 in service but continue Brush 12 to stage at Station 14 for a cover up assignment. Brush 12 arrived at Station 14 at 1938 hours. While at Station 14, the Brush unit stood by to protect the southern end, since all Elkton units were committed in the tornado alley that touched down in the area. Brush 12 did not handle any calls and was released by "Fair Hill Command" at 2118 hours. Fire Box - 1209 Since the first two incidents were cleared, at 1924 hours Fireboard alerted the company for a second call in the First Due for trees and wires at the intersection of Indiantown Road and Sky Ridge Road in London Britain Township. Since Chief 22 was just clearing from the 1208 box, he requested to hold Engine 12-1 at station and he will gather the information for PECO to be notified. The request was made to PECO as a Priority 1 since the life safety was in harm. The wires leading to the house where struck by a limb and then proceed to arc across both vehicles then went towards the occupied dwelling. Chief 22 remained on scene until it was deemed safe at 1947 hours. Fire Box - 2202 Once again the third call in the district was struck out at 1945 hours for a motor vehicle collision (10-50 PI) on eastbound State Road just east of Schoolhouse Road in London Grove Township. Rescue 22 was staffed and went enroute at 1947 hours followed up by Engine 12-1, Engine 22, and Ambulance 22-3. Rescue 22 was under the direction of Deputy 22 who placed the box in service once on scene since it was a police matter only. All units were cleared at 1953 hours. Fire Box - 1209 Once again the company was alerted moments after our fifth emergency for the trees and wires investigation. The call was received at 2001 hours to respond to westbound Chambers Rock Road just east of State Route 896. Engine 12-1 marked up at 2002 hours followed by Ambulance 22-3. Since Ambulance 22-3 was in the area they handled the incident and Engine 12-1 went back into service at 2013 hours. Ambulance 22-3 arrived at 2012 hours to find a tree limb across power line and proceed to get the pole number and closest address so PECO could be notified. All units were cleared from the box at 2014 hours. |
