| The area community purchased more than 600 tickets for a delicious chicken barbeque meal held Saturday at the Avondale station to benefit the fire company.
A crew of about 30 first responders began cooking at 6am Saturday morning. More than 700 chicken quarters were slow cooked on massive cookers, seasoned and turned by the cooking crew. Meals included chicken, a four-bean salad, mushroom salad, cookie and drink for an amazing $10 value. Crews cooked, bagged and assembled the meals, which were then packaged up and delivered in a drive-through line that passed through Avondale's fire house until mid-afternoon.
Proceeds from the event were enhanced by significant donations from Giorgio Foods (mushrooms) and Dale Yates (vegetables) and additional donations from Engine Bay Floors, Clayton Woods/State Farm Avondale, and VFIS that offset event costs of $1750.00. Proceeds will go toward the newly-formed fire company, Southern Chester County Fire Rescue. SCCFR is emerging from the merger of the Avondale and West Grove fire companies, with operations expected to begin on January 1, 2027. For more information on SCCFR, see the link below. |
