| Firefighters from West Grove and Avondale conducted a shared training exercise focusing on engine company operations at the New London station Monday evening.
First arriving engine companies have a critical assignment at fires: size up the scene, quickly deploy handlines, and move with purpose to get water on the fire as soon as possible. Training hones those skills, especially helping firefighters get preconnected attack lines off the fire truck, deployed quickly to the point of entry, and advanced into the fire building.
Crews from both departments worked together at the training, leveraging Engine 23 as the operating engine, and utilizing the training trailer located in New London. The training trailer can be used to simulate a number of fire situations, and can also be filled with training smoke and fire to simulate fireground conditions. Continuous training and learning assures firefighters are ready for any situation, and a strong training culture is an indication of a progressive, prepared fire department.
West Grove and Avondale first responders have worked as partners for 100+ years and now will come together to merge their operations into a new department known as Southern Chester County Fire Rescue.
