| Recently, the West Grove and Avondale fire companies worked together with the Jennersville YMCA to create a special experience for kids this summer. Working with summer campers, the program — called the Southern Chester County Fire Rescue fire camp — exposed campers over a week to engine operations, search, and rural water supply. Campers spent time learning how to work as a team, operate a handling off of a hydrant, and the importance of taking care of and maintaining equipment. At the end of the week campers spent a day at the firehouse that ended with search evolutions and engine evolutions.
Each camper went home with some new knowledge, a fire camp T-shirt, specialized workbook, and challenge coin to remember the week by. The overall goal was to create a positive and educational experience about the fire service. Our thanks to the Jennersville YMCA on this great addition to their summer camp program.
Currently, the two fire companies are working together to merge, and will form a new organization called Southern Chester County Fire Rescue. SCCFR is expected to begin operation on January 1, 2027. For more information on SCCFR, click the link below. |
