Subject Trapped in Pickup Rescued in New London

West Grove first responders were dispatched to an accident with reported entrapment at 9:28pm on May 15 on State Road near Creek Road in New London Township. Reports indicated a truck off the road with smoke coming from the engine and one subject trapped.

Chief 22 arrived with one vehicle off the road, confirmed the entrapment and established command. The WGFC responded with Ambulance 22-1, Engine 22-2, Ambulance 22-2, Engine 22-1 and Ladder 22 along with fire police. The pickup was down in a creek area well below the roadway. Crews used battery-powered rescue tools (commonly referred to as the "Jaws of Life") to remove a door and gain access to the entrapped patient. The patient was removed via backboard and stokes basket and carried up the roadway. Extrication was complete 23 minutes after the initial dispatch.

WGFC crews were assisted on the scene by crews on Squad 21 and Squad 23, along with MICU 25-1, Medic 94-2 and Traffic 23. Crews cleared the scene in about an hour.
