West Grove Assists Cochranville in the Midst of Major Snowstorm

February 23, 2026

West Grove firefighters were dispatched to assist the Cochranville Fire Company 27 for a house fire in the very early morning hours in the midst of near-blizzard conditions Monday morning.

The call came in for the mutual aid house fire at 3:18 am. WGFC stations in New London and West Grove were both manned for the storm and crews had installed chains on the engines. West Grove units responded nearly immediately, and the two engines were accompanied by the tanker, ladder, a utility equipped with a snow plow and an ambulance.

With the first in 27 officer indicating fire showing and extension to the second floor of the semi-detached garage, the chained engine made it up the 1,600 foot unplowed driveway with 6+ inches of snow laying a supply line and acting as the first due engine with Tanker 27 providing water supply. Crews set ground ladders working with crews from Cochranville, Oxford and other fire companies fighting a stubborn fire in a residence above the garage. Strong work from all crews resulted in the fire being knocked down and the primary residence was spared.

A strong storm pre-plan and excellent partnership with all mutual aid companies made for a good outcome in very cold, windy and snowing conditions.
