Busy Thursday for the WGFC

Multiple emergencies kept first responders from the WGFC busy on Thursday.

Two incidents at the same time kicked off a busy period. First, a fire in a PECO transformer was reported at the intersection of Route 41 and Route 1 Bypass at 12:05pm. The resulting fire set grass below the pole on fire. Engine 22-1 made the response to that call.

Just minutes later at 12:10pm, smoke was reported in a commercial business on Route 41 at Old Baltimore pike at Camp Bow Wow. Reports said that the power had gone out and a burning smell was detected, followed by smoke in the building. Engine 22-1 and Ladder 22 made the response, with Engine 22-2 handling the incident at Route 41 and the Bypass. The owners of the business evacuated nearly 50 dogs to an outside pen, with situation under control quickly when it was determined that the smoke was from an roof HVAC unit.

As units were finishing up at Camp Bow Wow, the company was alerted to a third call at 1:13pm -- an automatic fire alarm in the Woodview Chase neighborhood in London Grove on Rose Ann Lane which turned out to be cooking setting off the fire alarms.

Then shortly after that, at just before 4pm, the WGFC was sent to assist the Union Fire Company of Oxford 21 to Pine View Estates for a reported house fire on Flintwood Drive. WGFC's Ladder 22, Tanker 22, Ambulance 22-1 and Engine 22-2 responded with a reported fire in a garage attached to the house in Lower Oxford Township. WGFC assisted Oxford firefighters with a fire that was largely on the exterior of the house.

All four of these fire calls were handled while the EMS team also took care of 11 medical emergencies on Thursday as well.
