Gas Leak -- London Grove

March 28, 2024

Utility crews working along Rosehill Road in London Grove Township struck an underground natural gas line which resulted in an emergency call for the West Grove Fire Company late Wednesday night.

A dinner-time crash on Rosehill Road resulted in significant damage to a Verizon pole. When utility crews came back to the scene later that night to replace the damaged pole, drilling equipment struck an underground PECO natural gas service line. Crews stopped work and WGFC was requested for a gas leak - outside call.

Arriving WGFC units noted an odor of gas on scene and began efforts to determine if gas had spread to nearby residences along Rosehill Road. Leaking gas can spread underground, so first responders checked neighboring residences, alerting those inside and checking gas readings. WGFC units Engine 22-1, Engine 22-2, Ladder 22, Engine 22-3 and the WGFC ambulances were on scene.

WGFC crews were at the emergency for approximately one hour, and the scene was turned over to PECO gas company workers who worked into the early hours of Thursday to repair the gas line, and enabling Verizon crews to complete the utility pole repair.
