A fire that was reported to the rear of a house on Evergreen Street in West Grove on February 6 was handled by a quick thinking crew of first responders.

Just past 2:30 pm, a fire was reported at a house on West Evergreen Street with callers reporting fire on the outside of the rear of the dwelling. The building is two attached residences with the fire reported on the west side of the structure.

Firefighters from the nearby West Grove station were at the New London station on a training exercise with Ladder 22 and Engine 22. Firefighters at Station 22 for the house fire smartly responded with Tanker 22. While the tank truck's primary mission is to haul 3,500 gallons of water to fire scenes, the WGFC designed the truck to also feature attack hose lines so that it could be pressed into service as an engine if necessary. These first responders used Tanker's 1-3/4 attack line and quickly knocked down the fire on the side of the house.

Other units of the WGFC arrived from New London and crews opened up exterior and interior walls to assure no additional spread and the call was declared quickly under control. Units from Avondale, Oxford and Cochranville were recalled early in the incident.
