Dropping Eggs for the 8th grade at the Middle School

Last week, the West Grove Fire Company helped students at the Avon Grove Fred S. Engle Middle School with with a science/physics experiment.

Each year, 8th grade students have to make a container that protects a raw egg when dropped from various heights. If the project survived the previous in-school drops, students can have their project dropped from a height of about 80 feet from atop the WGFC ladder truck. Some survived! Some did not!

Ladder 22 was set up in the school parking lot and the experiments were dropped one at a time. For WGFC crews, this is a lot of fun to witness, and we love helping the students and teachers with these experiments. And this year was even more special, as several of the students with projects to be dropped were the children of WGFC firemen.

As the students found out: lighter packaging was better and rubber bands held better than tape. Congratulations to all of the science students!
