FIre Safety talks at Luther House

Community safety education is one of the major outreach programs of the West Grove Fire Company, in schools for students and also for adults as well. Over the last month, the WGFC has partnered with Medic 94, Brandywine River Valley Home Health & Hospice, and a local State Farm Insurance broker to deliver safety education at the Luther House in Penn Township.

Working together, WGFC FF/EMT Lisa Glass, along with Jakes Barnes and Bob Hotchkiss from Medic 94, PJ Mullin from State Farm Insurance, and Michelle Robinson from Brandywine River Valley Home Health & Hospice, have been to the Luther House residents to talk about many safety topics.

The team talked about fire safety and what to do in case of a fire; medical safety topics like to avoid throw rugs and to assure residents fill out the emergency information card that the fire company provides to them. Other topics included identity theft and how to avoid scam calls/emails; making sure residents have the proper insurance to cover their needs (including renters/vehicle); how to assure that patients' medical directives can be followed (POLST forms -- POLST forms are medical order forms that tell medical staff what to do if a person has a medical emergency and is unable to speak for themselves); and other topics that are important in the time of an emergency.

We thank the residents of Luther House for attending and asking so many great questions.
