House Fire in East Nottingham

March 4, 2023

West Grove firefighters had just returned to quarters from two earlier calls -- a report of a gas leak in a Penn Township residence and a wires-on-fire call in London Grove -- when they were requested to assist on a third call to Union Fire Company of Oxford.

Numerous fire companies were dispatched for a reported fire-type-unknown call along Duck Farm Road, off of Oxford Road, in East Nottingham Township. During the dispatch, additional information was received indicating a house on fire at 148 Duck Farm Road with the rear of the house on fire.

The WGFC responded with Engine 22-3, Ladder 22, Tanker 22 and Engine 22-1 from West Grove, with Engine 22-2 responding from New London, along with WGFC's ambulances. The Union Fire Company of Oxford whose territory includes this house address responded with its compliment of equipment, with Engine 21-1 arriving as the fire due engine reporting smoke rising from the C-side or rear of the home. They stretched an initial attack line on the fire which was burning the back of the house near at the corner with an attached garage, with the Engine supplied by Tanker 21. Ladder 21 also arrived along with a second engine from Oxford.

Engine 22-3 arrived as the third due engine with crews throwing ground ladders and stretching a second hand line. Engine 22-1 arrived and reverse laid a 5" supply line 1200' from the scene back toward Oxford Road to provide a water source if needed. Ladder 22 and Engine 22-2 crews joined the manpower pool and assisted crews from Oxford to open up walls and handle fire extension which occurred in the garage and upwards toward the second floor.

The fire was largely contained to damage at the corner of the garage and house, with some smoke throughout the dwelling. Crews were on location for about an hour before picking up equipment.

Engine 22-1 left the fire scene as the companies were picking up to assist in covering an auto accident in Oxford.
