November 3, 2022

The West Grove Fire Company was dispatched to assist Kennett Square on a possible building fire at Bove Jewelers in Kennett Square Thursday afternoon just before 1pm.

The WGFC was requested for the RIT unit (rapid intervention team) to assist Kennett (24), along with units from Longwood (25), Po-Mar-Lin (36), Avondale (23) and Hockessin (19) for reported smoke in the building. Callers to 911 reported smoke coming from the heating vents and a burning smell.

WGFC responded with Ladder 22 and Rescue 22. Ladder 22 arrived, with the crew setting up a RIT team in front of the building. RIT teams are responsible to be available to quickly remove any trapped or injured firefighters. Ladder 22's operator raised the aerial to the roof of the building as well. Rescue 22 then arrived and joined with the Ladder 22 crew.

Ultimately it was determined that the smoke in the building was the result of issues with the HVAC system. Units cleared the call about an hour later.
