"Will the person with a white Toyota automobile in the parking lot, please return to your car...it's next to a truck on fire!" That was the unusual announcement inside the Giant store in Jennersville Sunday morning in Penn Township.
Just before noon, callers to the 911 Center began reporting a fire in a pick up truck in the parking lot of the Giant Food Store in Penn Township. West Grove Fire Company was dispatched, with Engines 22-1, 22-2, 22-3, Ladder 22 and the Ambulance responding. A nearby Union Fire Company of Oxford Ambulance reported an engine compartment well ablaze.
Engine 22-1 arrived in front of the Giant store, and deployed the 1-3/4" bumper attack line. Crews masked up with breathing apparatus and advanced on the burning vehicle to put the fire out working also to try and prevent additional damage to adjacent cars. Approximately 1,000 gallons of water carried on Engine 1 was used to assure the pickup fire was fully extinguished and adjacent cars were cooled down and checked for extension.
There were no injuries, and crews were on scene for about 30 minutes. WGFC Fire Police assisted with traffic control in the busy parking lot. |
