A mid-afternoon thunderstorm created a traffic headache on Monday, August 23.

When lightning struck a PECO pole at the intersection of Route 896 and Violet Lane, the result was fallen power lines and an outage that impacted traffic lights -- and it didn't help that it blocked traffic at the entrance of the Avon Grove Intermediate School campus.

WGFC units were dispatched and arrived to assure a safe zone around the downed lines. WGFC fire police assisted by creating safe travel lanes around the hazard, and helped support the scene while PECO crews made repairs.

Fire police were on scene for several hours.
